Learning to love...

I was reading in John 13 this morning.

“Before the Passover celebration, Jesus knew that his hour had come to leave this world and return to his Father. He now showed the disciples the full extent of his love. So he got up from the table, took off his robe, wrapped a towel around his waist, and poured water into a basin. Then he began to wash the disciples' feet and to wipe them with the towel he had around him.”

John 13:1, 4-5

The main thing that jumped out at me was that the full extent of Jesus’ love was to wash His disciples feet. What does that tell me? The greatest way to show love is to serve when there is no obligation. These were the guys that Jesus had been discipiling and pouring into since the start of His ministry. If anything they owed Him a service!

If the full extent of of the most perfect love the world has ever seen came in the form of servant hood, then that tells me a lot on how I'm supposed to go about showing love.

Saying those three words is great, but I need to start showing them too.

  1. Such a simple story, with so much meaning. the fact that Jesus didn't even hesitate to do something like wash His disciples feet, just floors me.
